Discovering the Magic of The Little Mermaid: Filming Locations Along Sardinia’s Stunning Coast

The 2023 live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid brought to life the enchanting world of Ariel, not just under the sea but on the stunning shores of northern Sardinia. Filming locations included several picturesque spots on this Mediterranean island, particularly along the coast of Gallura.

One of the most iconic scenes, where Ariel rescues Prince Eric and emerges onto the rock, was filmed at the beautiful Spiaggia di Rena Majore in Aglientu. This pristine beach, with its white sands and turquoise waters, provided the perfect backdrop for these magical moments. Interestingly, the rock Ariel climbs onto was specially constructed for the scene and brought to the beach just before filming

Another significant location was Castelsardo, an ancient fortified village in the heart of the Gulf of Asinara. This scenic town served as the distant backdrop for Prince Eric’s castle, adding an authentic and historic touch to the film’s visual landscape

Additionally, Capo Testa and Rena di Matteu, with their rugged cliffs and hidden coves, were used for the film’s dramatic carriage scenes between Ariel and Eric. These coastal locations, known for their striking rock formations and crystal-clear waters, beautifully complemented the magical and adventurous spirit of the film.

For fans of The Little Mermaid, visiting these breathtaking locations in Sardinia offers a chance to step into Ariel’s world and experience the charm of the island firsthand
